Colbert to NY Fordham students: 'I love my church'

NEW YORK ? Stephen Colbert says he loves the Roman Catholic Church no matter its human flaws.

The host of "The Colbert Report" talked about his faith Friday night at an event at Fordham University. He was part of a discussion on humor and spirituality at the Jesuit school with New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan. The moderator was the Rev. James Martin whom Colbert has named the official chaplain of his show.

Colbert said people in comedy often don't understand how he can remain a Catholic. But he said the church teaches joy and it is something he wants to pass on to his sons.

Colbert said his jokes aren't about religion, but people's misuse of religion.

He said he is in big trouble if Jesus doesn't have a sense of humor.
