Plus, having that advanced degree can really be of help to businesses. The ideas people are exposed to at the graduate level are usually concepts people are not exposed to in the working world, so people with the graduate knowledge are able to apply it in the business setting to better manage the company operation, improving the bottom line.

Once you make the decision to pursue a graduate degree, another consideration is what type of degree to get. This will depend on your degree of experience and your career goals. If, for example, you are looking to move up the management ranks and expand outside of HR, it might be worth your while to get an MBA with an HR concentration.

If, however, you plan to remain in HR, getting a master?s in human resources might be a better way to go.

And, of course, certification and other training courses are also an option for those who want something a little less expensive and time consuming. These types of programs may appeal more to people who have many years of experience in human resources.
