CINCINNATI (AP) - A feud over government cost-cutting in Cincinnati escalated Friday, when Mayor Mark Mallory informed a top county official he no longer wants to study sharing services between the city and county.
The Cincinnati Enquirer reports (http://cin.ci/OLUY7N ) Democrat Mark Mallory wrote to Hamilton County Commission President Greg Hartmann that he fears the effort will lead to outsourcing and privatization. Mallory said he wouldn't relinquish the ability of Cincinnati citizens to control crucial city services, such as prosecutors and health clinics.
Mallory's letter follows a threat by Hartmann earlier this week to possibly pursue a ballot proposal to merge city and county functions if the service-sharing effort didn't move forward.
The letter could signal an end to efforts by the area's two largest, most expensive governments to cut costs and lower taxes.
