DISCONNECT Enough Blame To Go Around music review by ...
I know of Disconnect as one of their members is local to where I live. I've heard each of their
albums including this newest release, thanks to meeting one of their members (Erich) in person at
his live solo gigs. From their first album I was impressed with their ability to do what they do
considering they consist of two guys who collaborate over a great distance and somehow make it all
work. It seems like with each album they keep gathering more speed. As a performing musician
myself, I have been amazed at what they've done in the past. On this album, the two long tracks
(Falling Man & Twistng the Knife) are really an album to themselves and move from one section to the
next, fitting perfectly together. I lost a nephew in the 9/11 attacks, so when I first heard the
opening minutes of Falling Man I was really moved by it....so much that I nearly stopped playing the
song. Glad I stuck with it as it is truly an epic track. Twisting the Knife is an equally powerful
song musically, I hear Floyd influences on this one and even some non prog influences (Stevie Ray
Vaughan style solo in one section). Not to ignore the other three songs but those two really stand
out. The instrumental (Inside Job) sounds like a bit of Tool mixed with a bit of early King
Crimson. Really excellent stuff and well executed.
