Am I not allowed to have an IRA since I have a 401k at work? I hear ...

September 08, 2011 ? Consultant ?

Hello, I was told by my bank that I was not allowed to have a traditional IRA or a Roth IRA since I participate in a 401k at work. Yet I hear people say they have ?multiple IRA?s? all the time. How can they have more then 1? And Why am I not allowed to have 1 if I have a 401k, if this is even true? Any information about this would be great.

Also if becouse my AGI is too high to qualify for a IRA, what other investment vehicles besides mutual funds are available to me. I already have a portfolio of automatic investing mutual funds, and a roll over CD. I am just looking for other things, if by chance a IRA I do not qualify for due to a 401k participation.

Thank you!
