Managing director and chief dishwasher tried to spear Senior Account Executive Sjaelan Evans while they tour the Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya ? we hope it was playfully meant!

Dubai, U.A. E ? From the Caribbean to Dubai, Toucan has successfully dominated the Caribbean market in interactive online marketing, largely because of its skilled team members in India, Dubai and the Caribbean. Now the company has taken its expertise and enthusiasm across the Atlantic to form new partnerships in East Africa. Toucan opened a brand new office in Nairobi, Kenya on March 21, 2012.

Commercial scale interactive online marketing is still brand-new in East Africa, and Toucan is the first company to invest in this evolving industry in the region. The office, located at Suite 1 on the first floor of International House in Nairobi, boasts an all-Kenyan team of account executives and creatives that are already hard at work on projects for clients in the local aviation and insurance industries.

?It feels great to know that we?re able to offer our clients the same cutting edge technological solutions and talented creative know-how that Toucan offers everywhere else,? said Ms. Muthoni Mahinda, at the Toucan Kenya office. Toucan?s marketing style is particularly suited to helping clients in the tourism and insurance sectors to boost their online presence and engagement in measurable ways, she added. ?We?re new to the East Africa market, but Toucan?s vision of interactive online marketing fits in really well with our tech-saavy culture and with where East Africa?s development is headed.?

East Africa is an exciting and emerging market, named one of the four top web-using countries in Africa, and Toucan is committed to investing developing economies, which provide stimulating challenges for interactive marketers to take advantage of. The Kenyan government has committed to using ICT to accelerate the region?s economic growth, which means that policy decisions will encourage continued internet penetration into the market. Nearly 10 per cent of Kenya?s 41 million citizens are internet users, and almost 1.5 million Kenyans are Facebook users.? Twitter is also hugely popular in East Africa, and an influential Twitter group with the hashtag #KOT (Kenyans on Twitter) is gaining interest as online ambassadors of their national brand, according to a CNN report.

Given this shared addiction to online communication, it?s no wonder that the rest of the Toucan team already feels very much at home in East Africa. Some members from Toucan Caribbean, including Managing Director/Chief Dishwasher Mr. Douglas Ames and Account Executive Ms. Sjaelan Evans, went on a retreat to the Maasai Mara National Reserve, one of the continent?s most important wildlife reserves.? There they experienced a real African safari and chatted with members of the Maasai. Rumour has it that Douglas got a little too much into the spirit of the Maasai warrior, playfully threatening Sjaelan with a spear; luckily, Sjaelan had her trusty buffalo hide shield to protect her!

?Kenya is beautiful and energetic,? said Ames, explaining the company?s decision to open the new branch. ?The people are very entrepreneurial and finding excellent staff wasn?t hard at all. We?re very excited to be a part of this region?s ongoing development and to become part of the family.?

The Toucan Kenya team is looking forward to expanding its client base from Kenya to Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda and the South Sudan.
